Who would want to have a world without dyes? Dyes have made the textile world vibrant and colorful, giving each piece of fabric a unique personality. The dyeing process has been carried out since times immemorial; however the dyes of today are largely obtained through laboratories and factories rather than from natural sources.
Dyeing in textiles goes back to times immemorial. From coloring textiles with vegetables dyes to the modern day technology of the present era, we have come a long way in textile dyeing. As against the ancient times where dyes were made using natural resources, today most of the dyes are manufactured from petroleum based intermediates and coal tars.
As per our beliefs, agriculture is all about nature and natural colors. It may sound odd that dyes are required to colour the agricultural products. But the truth is that agricultural products are in need of colours as much as the artificial products do. From seed treatment to fertilizer colorants, agricultural dyes have extensive use throughout the world in the agricultural field. Most importantly, unlike in other fields where the dyes are used to increase the visual appeal, agricultural dyes perform vital function of identification and differentiation.
Paper industries is one of the oldest industries in which extensive use of various dyes have been done since ages. People have found many kinds of dyes which can be used in many ways to create various varieties of papers. With time and development of science and technology scientists have found many techniques for bulk production of various dyes which can be easily used in dying papers.
